"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE FOR THOSE NEEDING POWER"
Eph 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
Eph 5:18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. NLT Version.
Some explanatory thoughts and application:
1. The Lord was telling the Ephesians, and us, what not to do in our lives. And, that is to be drunk, or intoxicated with wine.
2. The reason is because, getting drunk will ruin your life.
3. But, please notice what the Lord does say to do. Eph 5:18b Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. NLT Version.
4. When we are controlled by the Holy Spirit, we will find the Lord giving us His power in our lives.
5. His power helps us to deal with our sins, to turn away from them, and to turn to Him, and to obey Him, and to serve Him, and to find the basic power we need to live the Christian life. God's power will stimulate our souls in the right way.
6. It's helpful and interesting to note, that Eph 5:18, is not given to us in the form of a suggestion, but rather, in the form of a command. It literally means, that we are to be being filled with the Spirit. That is, each one of us, day by day, hour by hour, are to allow the Holy Spirit to control our lives. How do we do this.? Good question. One sure answer is to simply obey the promptings of the Lord, the clear things we see and read, and hear in the Word, in other words, just follow Jesus. You will find Him giving you power.
A Prayer:
Our Father who is in heaven, and helps us here on earth, we want to just pause and say that we hallow Your name, we want You to be lifted up in our lives, and we thank You for being so kind and gracious to us, to give us the power we need to live day by day while we wait to go to heaven and be with You forever, and forever.
While we are here, we also appreciate the commands You give us. They are so good for us. We can come up with many ideas, but You have given us clear instruction about what to do. So, thank You for this command, that when obeyed, leads to our being filled with Your wonderful power, the person of the Holy Spirit.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
