"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE ABOUT TWO BLESSINGS FROM GOD"
Psalm 4:3 But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
Some explanatory thoughts/application/questions and a prayer:
It's believed that David wrote this Psalm. And, some have called it " A Psalm which describes the safety of the faithful."
You can see this by looking at the very last verse in the Psalm.
Psalm 4:8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
David would go to bed in peace, and sleep. Because He knew that God alone was the one who made him to dwell in safety.
May this devotional bring you some sense of God's peace and blessing in your life today.
1. God wants us to know the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
Psalm 4:3 But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
God has given you so many blessings, and He wants you to be sure of them. He wants you to know of them. The verse above says, "He has bestowed upon us" He has already given us so many blessings, and there are two in this verse.
Please read the verse again, and see if you can pick them out. Remember, there are two.
2. God wants you to be sure to know that He has set you apart for Himself.
Psalm 4:3 But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
Well, here's the first one. And it's that God has set apart the believer, the godly person for Himself. What does this mean exactly? The phrase "set apart" means, separated, put a difference, to be distinct, marked out, be separated. to make separate. Please notice, the part of the verse that says, "For Himself" God has set you apart for Himself. He loves You.
Another way of understanding this phrase, is that when you turned to Christ and believed in Him, You were placed into Christ, You were set apart to God, You belong to God, and You have been marked out for Him, for His exclusive use. You belong to Him, He owns You. You are no longer your own, but now you are His possession. You belong to God. What a blessing.
3. God wants you to know that when you call out to Him, He will hear you.
Psalm 4:3 But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
And, here is the second blessing. When you call out to God, that is, when you pray and talk to Him, He hears You. What a blessing to know that God hears us when we call to Him. . And, we can be sure of it, because the Bible tells us it's so. Look again at the last part of the verse.
Psalm 4:3 The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
Another way of understanding this blessing, is that the Lord will answer when you call to Him. God hears and answers our prayers.
Questions:
1. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Count your blessings, name them one by one?"
2. Well, here are two that you can count and name.
3. Do you ever think of yourself as having been set apart to God for His exclusive use?.
4. Will you take just a moment right now, to bow your heart before the Lord and thank Him for these two blessings.?
5. Do you have the real confidence that when you pray, God will actually hear you and answer you?.
A prayer:
Father, thank you for the Psalms. They are indeed a never ending source of encouragement to us. And, this fourth one falls into that category to be sure. What a joy to our hearts to learn about the many blessings You have already given us, let alone the eternal blessings You have in store for us. We are Yours. And, You hear us and answer us when we call. Thank You Father.
In Jesus name, amen.
