"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE ABOUT THE BLESSING OF PLEASANT WORDS"

"SHARING HOPE THROUGH SCRIPTURE ABOUT THE BLESSING OF PLEASANT WORDS"

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Some explanatory thoughts/application/questions and a prayer:

As we know, Proverbs is God's book for living wisely in the day to day things of life. Here's proverb that talks about our speech, and the blessings that can be associated with it.

1. There is speech that is called pleasant.
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Pleasant words, or kind words. That's the idea. We can speak in a kind way to others. And, here below are two verses from the New Testament about our speech, and about speaking with kindness.

Eph 4:32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

2nd Tim 2:24 The Lord’s servants must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone. They must be able to teach effectively and be patient with difficult people.
Please notice, that these verses, are not an option for us, but rather God's instruction and command to us.
Isn't it a blessing to think that our Father, commands His children to speak with kindness to one another?

2. Pleasant speech is likened unto a honeycomb.
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Or, pleasant words, kind words are like honey. Here's a beautiful verse. Jeremiah 32:22 You gave the people of Israel this land that you had promised their ancestors long before--a land flowing with milk and honey.

God was saying to them, that the land He would give them was like a sweetness. And, in application to us today as believers, this speaks of living our lives under the control and direction of the Holy Spirit. God has a blessed or sweet life for us to live. And, our speech can reflect what is going on inside of our hearts in our walk with the Lord. Our speech can be a blessing to others.

3. Pleasant speech brings blessing to our souls and our bodies.
Proverbs 16:20 Kind words are like honey--sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. NLT

Please notice, that when we speak in a pleasant way, that two things happen. Our souls and our bodies are blessed. Isn't that interesting, that the way we speak has a lot to to do with how we feel, and in fact, it has a lot to do with the health of our bodies.

There is no one sweeter than God. And, when we walk with Him day by day, and allow Him to lead us, and take His Word into our hearts and obey it, we are transformed and become like honey. We can become a blessing to others and to ourselves.

Some questions:

1. Have you ever given much thought to how your speech affects you, and those around you?

2. How interesting that our speech can bring such a blessing into our lives, and the lives of others.

3. Jesus told us that our speech is connected to our hearts. In other words, what comes out of our mouths, is what is in our hearts.

4. Keeping our hearts pure before God will affect the way we speak.

5. How is your heart today? Do you need God's help in your heart?

6. Do You know that He loves You and wants to bless Your heart with more and more of Himself in Your life?

7. Will you take just a moment right now to ask Him to take full control of Your heart and life? He will do it.

A prayer:

Father, You are so good, and You want to bring Your goodness into our lives day by day. Thank You that we can get up each day and seek You, and find You, and experience Your blessings in our hearts. And, then wind up being a blessing not only to ourselves, but to others around us. Bless our hearts this day Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
